Howdens Sewing Machines are dedicated to your satisfaction. If you have any suggestions or comments please email us at We supply schools and colleges throughout Yorkshire and the rest of the UK. Education discounts are available on many of our products when ordered via an official local authority purchase order. Please contact us before ordering to confirm the current "Education Price". All our machines and other electrical items are 240v UK mains voltage, unless otherwise stated. All Bernina sewing machines with the exception of the 1008 have a dual voltage transformer.

Making A Purchase

Just browse our catalogue and select the items that you wish to buy, they will automatically be placed in your basket. After you have finished shopping, please click on Checkout, or Check out with PayPal. If you select Checkout, you will be asked for your address details. As you proceed through the Checkout process you will be asked to select one of the two available Payment Methods from the drop-down box, after making that choice please remember to click on CONFIRM ORDER. If you prefer not to give your card details over the internet, please select the Tel: 01484 516700 with your card details option, then click CONFIRM ORDER. Print out your receipt and phone 01484 516700 and our staff will be happy to take your details over the phone. Monday to Saturday 9.00am till 5.00pm.

Shipping And Handling

The following standard delivery shipping charges apply to mainland UK addresses:

  • Orders up to 49.99 carry a Post and Packaging fee of 3.95
  • Orders of 50 and over are delivered Free of Charge
  • Horn Sewing Cabinets are delivered free of charge to most UK destinations; deliveries to Northern Scotland and Central London (Congestion Charge Area) are subject to additional charges; details available upon request.
The following shipping charges apply to areas outside the UK:
  • Orders for small lightweight items to countries within the Euro Zone carry a shipping fee of 8.40
  • Orders for small lightweight items to North America and the rest of the world carry a shipping fee of 12.95
  • If ordering a larger, heavier item please enquire by email prior to placing your order. We will advise of the best shipping cost to your destination - we will not despatch your order until we have agreed the carriage charges with you.
  • PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to ship Bernina Sewing Machines and Overlockers, to addresses outside the UK.

Delivery Schedule

We process all our internet orders very quickly, most items are held as part of our normal working stock. Sewing machines and Overlockers and other high value items except Horn Cabinets, are sent out via carriers and require a signature on delivery. If no one is available to accept delivery, the package will be returned to your local depot. A card will be left with details on how to arrange redelivery of your order. There is no charge if redelivery is required. We can also arrange delivery to a work address, neighbour, etc. if required. Smaller items are sent out via Royal Mail and take approximately 2 to 5 working days. This applies to orders downloaded on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday before 2pm. Orders placed after 2pm on Friday will be dispatched on the following Monday. Some delay may be experienced at peak times, for instance Christmas and Bank Holiday weekends.

Tax Charges

Prices shown in our online catalogue include VAT except books, which are zero-rated. For customers ordering from outside the EU, our website is configured to display prices based on Delivery Location, this automatically reduces the sales tax to zero for valid locations.

Following changes to card processing legislation and in order to offer our customers the most secure method of online purchasing, we have partnered up with PayPal, who specialize in web based payment solutions.


All machines come with the standard manufacturers guarantee. Returns Policy

RETURN CONDITIONS, The product must be in its original condition and include all original packing materials. We are unable to refund damaged or used items unless faulty. RETURN PERIOD no later than 14 days after receipt of goods. RETURN INSTRUCTIONS if you wish to return your order/item, remember to re-pack the parcel securely and mail it with insurance cover as we cannot give a refund for returns damaged in transit to us (the safety of your parcel lies between yourself and the service you use to return it to us), then send your parcel to the following address: RETURNS DEPARTMENT Howdens Sewing Machines, Unit 1, Ray Street Centre, Ray Street, Huddersfield. West Yorkshire. HD1-6BL RETURN SHIPPING COSTS are at your own expense, except in instances of receiving a faulty item or an error by Howdens Sewing Machines. REFUND we will refund the purchase price of the item returned, less 10% to cover Credit & Debit Card processing charges and restocking costs. Your original form of payment will be credited. CREDIT PERIOD return credits typically take approximately 3 to 4 days to process. In the event of an ERROR BY HOWDENS SEWING MACHINES if you receive a damaged or incorrect item, Howdens will offer to remedy the situation by providing a replacement, and if we ask you to return the item will pay your return postage costs. Should you wish to cancel the order at this point no deduction will be made to cover Credit & Debit Card processing charges and restocking costs. COLOURS we are not accountable for minor colour variations; this is not considered an error by Howdens and will not result in a refund of the original or return shipping costs.
