Bernina Patchwork Foot With Guide 57

Bernina Patchwork Foot With Guide 57

Bernina Patchwork Foot With Guide 57

Bernina Patchwork Foot 57 has been specially developed for patchwork, ideally suited for projects with either 1/4" or 1/8" (approx. 6 or 3mm) seam allowances.

It differs from Patchwork Foot 37 in that it has an additional seam guide on the right hand edge of the foot to assist with sewing perfectly straight lines.

The straight stitch opening in the foot is ideal for patchwork and precision stitching techniques.

Bernina Patchwork Foot 57 is for use with straight stitch only, with centre needle position. The foot has a spring-loaded seam guide; the spring allows the guide to move easily over uneven layers or bulky seams.

The outer and inner edges of the foot are 1/4" and 1/8" respectively from the centre needle position, and 3 special evenly spaced notches, (each 1/4" apart), are situated on both sides of the foot. These make it easier for the square insertion of pieces when patchworking. The edges of the fabric being sewn are aligned with the inside edge of the guide for accurate 1/4" piecing; the inside of the toes provides an accurate 1/8" seaming guide.

A narrow groove under the flat sole of the foot acts as a thread channel for smooth piecing. The small needle opening helps prevent the fabric being pulled down into the feed dog when stitching narrow seams.

A large sewing extension table or cabinet makes quilt piecing easier and promotes greater precision, as it provides better support for your patchwork. Using a straight stitch plate will also give better control of the fabric.

Other uses: precision sewing such as sewing tucks, topstitching.

For the Patchwork Foot without guide, please see foot 37.

This foot fits the old Bernina mechanical models from the 530 to the 1630, including the current 1008.
